Teresa Miller
Program Director and PATH Certified Instructor
Having raised a special needs daughter, I have a unique opportunity to share my experiences with other parents who may be facing the same issues. I started working with horses and individuals with disabilities over 20 years ago helping as my daughter rode and competed in equine therapy sessions and events. The benefits my daughter received from equine assisted therapy was tremendous. Seeing the HUGE benefit it offered, Stars and Strides was born in 2013.
Being the program director and instructor at Stars and Strides Stables gives me the opportunity to watch our riders accomplish things that they never thought possible. Each achievement, each small victory, speaks volumes to the impact horses have on the lives of those who struggle with a disability. It is a blessing watching them work on skills at the barn as well as compete at horse shows throughout the year. I take great joy in watching them in the arena and use the skills that they have learned during our lessons whether they are competing at horse shows or just riding to become more independent in life.
I am thankful for such a supportive community like Weatherford, and I truly believe our home and acreage was a blessing from God, giving me and my family a way to honor Him.
Misty Wright
PATH Certified Instructor
I grew up in a small town in West Texas around horses my entire life. I have lived in this area since 2014 with my husband, Wesley, of 20 years. Being an instructor at Stars and Strides is simply being the hands and feet of Jesus. I heard about the program at church. I came out and volunteered, from the first time I came out I knew I could help. Eight years later, here we are. The smile and joy that I get to see every week from the students/riders and their parents.
I believe in the mission of Stars and Strides Stables and am very thankful that I have the opportunity to be a part of changing lives and helping our riders become Stars.
Lisa Keefe
PATH Certified Instructor
Seeing the difference that horses have made in the lives of the riders I serve is tremendous. Every milestone they achieve is significant - even the small ones. I'm blessed to work with an exceptional team of riders and their families, a fantastic group of horses, volunteers who give selflessly of their time and the team at the helm who make it all possible. I was looking for part-time opportunities and a therapeutic riding center was searching for a volunteer coordinator. I stepped into that position and shortly after, was asked if I would obtain my PATH certification and start a show team over 10 years ago.
I am still very thankful for the chance to combine my passion for horses with service to others.
In addition to the riders, horses and volunteers, the leadership, standard of excellence and commitment of service to others that is set by David and Teresa Miller are unparalleled. I love being in the presence of such dedicated leaders.
I share an AQHA all around show horse with my oldest daughter and have been a 4-H horse project leader for more than 20 years.
